Project update

There is a great deal of information out there regarding marijuana. That variety of information covers its effects, medical aspects, how to use, why people use, legalization, sentencing, and what marijuana is. Since there is so much information out there about the topic at first I was a little worried about being able to narrow the subject down. After having the poster presentation day I was able to narrow my topic down significantly. The poster helped me out a great deal. I put a sample of all the information I had found on my poster. After presenting what I had I asked each person if they had some tips about how I should narrow down my topic and what subject matter should I mainly cover. I got a lot of feed back about maybe covering the legalization aspect of the drug. I could possibly make a comparison between the U.S. and how/why marijuana is illegal compared to another country were the drug is legal. I found this to be a really good idea because I have a great deal of information regarding the legalization portion and I feel this subject would make my paper a lot more interesting. I dont want my paper to be another common, boring, research paper talking about marijuana and what it does to people. I think that people already have some idea about what the drug can do to someone. The legalization aspect, I dont feel a lot of people know about. There is a great deal about it that I dont know and would like to inform myself about. In the end I think that my research paper will be not only interesting but also informing.

Project So Far....

As of right now I've found the majority of my information online. There are a few things that I'm still missing. Ive yet to find a significant amount of information regarding the legalization of Marijuana and its future regarding the United States. The other information regarding the effects it has on a person was relatively easy to find. I was also thinking of adding another source to my project. I was thinking of interviewing a couple of researchers or doctors who specialize in the drug. I thought this would be a good side source to contribute to my overall information.

Other Questions Regarding My Topic

I also thought about some other questions that would be useful in answering. These questions are also considered to be a major part of my topic.

What types of affects the drug has on a person?
How the drug is used medically to help people?

Pulling Questions

Why is Marijuana illegal? What aspect of the drug causes people to get addicted? Why is the drug dangerous to your health? What makes the drug so dangerous? What different types of chemicals make up the drug, if any? If the drug is so harmful why is it legal is other countries? Is there any possibility of the drug becoming legal in the U.S. in the future?

New Topic

I'm changing my research topic from the issue of civil rights to Marijuana. I'm interested in why Marijuana is illegal.
What aspects of the drug makes it dangerous and outlawed by society?
What aspect of the drug makes people get addicted to it?
What kind of chemicals make up the drug?
Why is it outlawed in the U.S. but legal in other countries?
It there a possibility of it becoming legal one day in the U.S.?

I wanted to change my topic to Marijuana because I believe I can research this topic a lot better. I'm also interested in what marijuana consists of and how it has made its mark on the world.

123 Step Advancing Project

1-Civil Rights was a major issue in the 19th Century. How were minorities treated compared to whites during this time?
2-What started the whole transition of unequal rights dealing with each minority? What made whites feel superior to all other minorities?
3-This was a major problem of the 19th century because it involved the mistreatment of minorities regarding their right to life. Not only was their basic rights stripped from them but they were also isolated and seen as a race inferior to the whites.

Focused session

Research went very well today. Since the recent change in my topic I found a lot more information regarding how minorities were treated opposed to whites during the 19th century regarding civil rights. I found information on the civil rights movements of African Americans, Spanish Americans, and Native Americans. This information was very detailed with facts leading up to the cause of each revolution and the outcome each group achieved. Just from the fact that there were so many civil rights movements by different minority groups lets you know that civil rights during that time was a big problem. The unequal distribution of these rights led to some major reforms in which change needed.

Prospect Revised

How where Minorities treated compared to whites during the 19th century regarding civil rights?

Class Exercise 1

How do government services respond to domestic violence against African Americans now compared to the beginning of the 19th century?
How African Americans where generally treated during the 19th century by law enforcement?
How African Americans are treated today by law enforcement?
Both regarding domestic disputes.

"Change of Topic"
Physical: When I began searching for my information I went to the UNC library website and searched for information regarding minorities and their rights during the 19th century.

Affective: I feel great about the information I found because I think it will be vary helpful.

Cognitive: I feel as though there will be much more information that I can use regarding my new topic.

Prospectus

How do government services respond to domestic violence against African Americans now compared to the beginning of the 19th century? As a minority, African Americans where treated a lot differently than whites during the beginning of the 19th century. To answer this question I would need to retrieve a lot information about various domestic disputes against African Americans during the 1900's. I would also need information about domestic disputes towards African Americans during the new millennium. I would also need to look at how African Americans where treated during that time compared to how they are treated today.

Current Information Needed

Information is needed on how African Americans where treated back then compared to now. Some specific disputes will be needed about how African Americans where treated during that time as well as now.
